Default New Insurance Plan

Personally, I believe Holland America is in good shape financially to weather this storm.

But they've also offered a terrific new insurance plan, the new Cancellation Protection Plan, which allows cancellation of cruise plans up to 24 hours prior to departure for any reason whatsoever and pays cash back to the passenger at 80 or 90 percent of the cruise fare cancellation penalty. Passengers purchasing Holland America’s Cancellation Protection Plan (CPP) or Cancellation Protection Plan Platinum (CPPP) may cancel for any reason up to 24 hours before they are scheduled to begin travel. Holland America only needs to be notified in writing or by e-mail.

If you're skittish at this time, be sure to purchase this plan.

I think it's important to add that HAL's insurance must be purchased at the time of making deposit. It cannot be purchased at a later date.

Also check to make certain that if you are doing your own air the HAL insurance covers it. We have been led to believe in the past that HAL's insurance covers only air purchased from them. Since we do our own air 99% of the time we purchase insurance offered by AAA.

Yes AAA covers for bankruptcies. But we don't know of any policy that doesn't contain an exclusion for Acts of War and Terrorism.
