I have some questions about the Zaandam and what to expect on our cruise. We have been on two other lines and both had midnight buffets each night. Does the Zaandam have them each night or not all all? How much will drinks cost? What time at night do they roll up the sidewalks?
They do have what they call a late night snack that starts at 11 but is what every other line calls the midnight buffet. It is an older crowd although we saw more teens and kids this past month than last Jan. Food is great and be sure to look at both sides of the lunch buffet as they vary. One side in the morning has an omelet bar and the afternoon a pasta bar. The other side has the ice cream bar and sandwich section. Beautiful ship.
What time does the last show start? How long do the shows last? We have booked on Oct. 25/03 cruise and have asked for the late sitting. Maybe we should go to early one instead. Don't want to miss the late buffets.
When did the Zaandam start doing this? I have not read this anywhere else.
I have always had late seating and there are shows after dinner. The show is usually at 10:15. They last around 45 minutes. On occasions a show might be offered early. This has only happened on cruises where they held that Big Bingo Thing at night.
We will be on the April 5 sailing as well. HAL's late night snack is usually around 11:00 or sometimes 11:30. The Chocolate buffet is a definite MUST. Usually, after the buffet, only the lounges are open. However, on a couple of nights, they had a deck party late at night when I sailed on the Rotterdam. The Crow's Nest usually doesn't roll up the sidewalks until after 2. 2:00 is about the latest I made it any night.
Best I can remember, the drink prices were the same as they were on Carnival and Celebrity, but I can't remember what they were. I threw away my charge sheet not too long ago, so I can't go back and check it.
Sharon - when did you last sail on the Rotterdam that you had a late night deck party, because the last few years the deck parties are held starting around 6pm, at least that was the time it started on the Rotterdam last November.
The ships used to have the late night deck party BBQ and they were loads of fun with music and games, but the last few years they have been holding them over the dinner hour so that you either go to the dining room for dinner or to the BBQ.
Gizmo is right - show for 2nd seating diners is held at 10:15 pm, and maybe once during the cruise, if something else is going on in the Lounge, like Bingo, then they hold the show earlier. check your daily program for times.
We were on the Rotterdam in February of 2002 on the 10 day Panama Canal cruise. There were three parties out on deck starting at 10:30. One was a barbecue, one was the dessert extravaganza, and the other was a fireworks display as we left Curacao. The barbecue and dessert extravaganza replaced the late night snacks those nights.
When I was on the 8 day Eastern Carribbean on the Westerdam in March of 2001, we had two late parties (10:30).
In my opinon, tHal keeps going as late as the Celebrity. Carnival is the only one I've been on so far that parties til the wee hours.
Sharon - I was on the Rotterdam Panama Canal cruise in November 2002, and the only deck party was the BBQ on the Lido Deck under the Dome and this was held during the dinner hour for both 1st and 2nd seating passengers. The Dessert Extravaganza was held inside the Lido where the buffet is. Our BBQ was over by 8:30pm and did not replace the late night buffet/snack.
We left Curacao around 6pm so didn't have the fireworks display - have seen it many times before when we left Curacao at 11pm and it was wonderful and the party was great.
