Trying to determine the best location(s) for seating in the Maasdam dining room. I am with a group of 12 headed to Alaska on the Maasdam in August. We would like to sit together with a nice window view. Where is the best place to request seating? Upper level? Will they move tables together for a more banquet style seating? Any other suggestions?
I beleve the Ryndam, Statendam, and Veendam are sister ships, Perhaps their dining rooms are set up the same way. Hopefully this increases the number of people who can assist based on their previous cruises on one of these ships.
You can get 2 tables of 6 by the window in the upper level of the dining room. This is probably the solution. You wil have to request this.
We sat at a table of 10 last cruise and they squeezed an 11th in one night when an Officer sat with us. Did make it a bit crowded but we didn't mind, as the Officer was so nice and seemed to enjoy himself that evening.
If you want a table for 12 you have to put in a special request for this, and the only one I know of is in the middle downstairs dining area.
They have two on the Rotterdam and Amsterdam but I belive only one on the Statendam class ships.

Yes you are right, it use to be the captain's table, back a few years ago, then they moved the captain to the Kings Room, and now you really do not see him at dinner.
Someone else had said get two tables for 6 next to each other, and that does sound like a good idea, and yes the best place to be in the dining room is on the upper level by the back windows.
You can always have people move from table to table each night, you know two a night that way everyone can sit with everyone, and yes the Steward will wonder whats going on, but after the second night he will understand.
Let's See, the last time we had dinner with the Captain, was about a year and a half ago on the Zaandam. We were there in the Marco Polo Restaurant and there was a total of 14 of us counting the Captain and his wife, we had a big table in the back area of the restaurant, very nice.
I am sorry, I did not know they were still using that Table, for the Captains Table on some of the ships.
