H.A.L. Amsterdam to Alaska (R.T. Seattle) This should be pretty painless because we can drive less than 21/2 hours and then board the ship. I'm so pleased to take a cruise where no air travel is required. Those Floridians aren't the only ones with freeway-close cruises. So there!
We love H.A.L. and are excited to try this relatively new ship.
Wife and I are booked on Oosterdam 2 Oct. Rome to Lisbon. We are trying to persuade another couple to join us. This will be our third HAL cruise and 15th cruise overall. We just returned from Singapore to Hong Kong cruise on the Prinsendam.. It was a wonderful cruise with interesting ports and probably the best food we have ever had on a cruise.
My husband and I sailed on the Maasdam several years ago on this itinerary and will be cruising her again on the November 30th cruise. We enjoy the ship life more than being in port but we enjoyed San Juan (we like history and the fort was neat...) and shopping in St. Thomas was fun. We also went to Magen's Bay, which is supposed to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, but we think Half Moon Cay puts Magens Bay to shame. Half Moon Cay was, to me, paradise. Simply gorgeous.
If you have any specific questions about the ship itself or the ports, feel free to e-mail me. We are a couple, 50, and our 27 year-old daughter and her significant other will also be cruising with us. Our third cruise (second on HAL) her third (first on HAL) and his first on an actual CRUISE ship (all his other "cruises" were on military vessels).
The Maasdam is a lovely ship, full of antiques and ambiance - a classic. Holland America is not for every cruiser, but we enjoy the Maasdam very much.
Hi Ali..........My wife & I are in our early 50's & are also sailing on the Maasdam on November 30, 2003. This is our 4th Cruise & our 1st with HAL. The itinerary sounds great ( would like to hear which ports & excursions you liked or disliked ? ).........but I admit to having some questions ( after I booked the Cruise ) re: the condition of the Maasdam after reading various e-mails which support allegations of Flooding Cabins, Non-functional Air -Conditioning, leaky, stuffed toilets, etc. ? I hope that these are just allegations & these conditions really do not exist ? ......Don & Noel
