We are heading north in September this year on the Amsterdam, it should be nice we haven't been in a few years, taking a group of 14 only 6 of us have cruised before. Hopefully I can get in some fly fishing, but with only a few hours at each port it looks slim to none.

We are! We are going to Alaska. On the Volendam 7/21/03. This is our 1st cruise and we are VERY excited. I have been doing alot of research on the ship, ports of call, excursions..........i just can't get enough information to satisfy! I sometimes think the anticipation is half the fun!!
I am doing the FLL to Vancouver Repo 4.28. 20 days will be the longest time I have been on a ship and am looking forward to it. I will let you know how it goes. If i could manage it, I would stay on and go to Alaska again.
I will let you know how it goes when I return May 25. I am going to visit friends in Seattle and then stop in Phoenix for a few days to see my grandaughter.
It was fun telling everybody I was coming to see them, but it would be a long trip because I was coming by boat!
We did the Inside Passage on the Volendam summer before last and loved every second of it. The Volendam, Vancouver, Alaska, and the weather were all fantastic! Hoping to go again someday......so many cruises, so little time.
We are going to Alaska on June 12, sailing on the Maasdam.
This will be our 14th cruise, the sixth with Holland America.
We have only ever had one disappointment with HAL, and that was with the air transportation it had hired to get us from Costa Rica to Miami on a December, 2000 Panama Canal cruise.
We sat for hours in the hot sun, with no water or other refreshments. The plane was hours late getting us off. We were so late getting into Miami that we missed all our connections.
We were put up at a lovely hotel, but we only got to stay in our rooms from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. We met in the lobby at 3.30 a.m and were told what accomodations had been made for us to get to Toronto. Unfortuately for us, we had to fly to Chicago first, layover, and then fly to Toronto. We arrived home on Christmas Eve at 5 p.m.
However, after complaining to HAL, we were given a two-category upgrade and VIP status.
We are using this upgrade for our Alaska trip...and I'll let you know what the VIP status means after I return!
Despite this experience, we have sailed on HAL since and are looking forward to our Alaska trip.
Best regards and happy cruising,
We are counting the days...leave Vancouver July 17th on the Maasdam...cruise for three days...begin 10 day land tour in Skagway. We've cruised inside passage twice (Princess and Celebrity), but this will be our first glimpse of interior Alaska. I'm stocking up on film and mosquito repellant. Is anyone else doing this tour (#3)?
