Okay, another stupid question. What would all you experienced Alaska cruisers suggest would be a good souvenir to bring home? We usually by 1 nice thing to remind us. (Other than a cruise pic, of course)
Also, is there a good place to buy one? We are going to Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan, and Victoria (which is 8pm, so forget about it there)
I don't know if you are into needlework but the last time I was in Alaska a bought a piece of needlework to complete showing the route we took and the different ports we stopped in. I had it famed when I completed it and it is hanging in my den right above my computer. Think I bought it in Juneau, but am not sure. I have enough little nick nacks from our travels, which I am sure the kids will throw out when I am gone, but I think they might keep this one.
We bought a leather covered album with the state of Alaska imprinted on it. After filling it with our cruise photos, we ran out of room (it holds 280 pictures and has a slot for description of each picture) and ended up ordering another album online.
Yes...an ulu knife is the classic Alaskan Souvenir. I have lived in Alaska for 19 years andthat is what all our visitors take home. They range from very basic to very ornate with carved handles. Very handy in the kitchen!
SITKA - there's a little Mall (guess that's what you'd call it) there that has the most amazing things - seems there's something for everyone - wish I could recall the name but it's been a few years since I was there. Should you choose something breakable, they will ship it for you.
