We are planning an Alaskan and are debating HAL vs. Celebrity. On HAL we would be getting a Verandah Suite category A or B. On Celebrity, we would get Premium or Deluxe Veranda Stateroom with Veranda. Which would you choose and why?
Oops! We're looking for a one way Vancouver to Seward (or vice versa) with Sitka and Hubbard Glacier on the itimerary. (We just came back from Princess' cruise and loved it so much we plan to return with another couple, but we want to see something new also.) On HAL the Veendam, Statendam, amd Ryndam have that itimerary. On Celebrity, it looks like it would be Summit or Infinity.
I have done Alaska on the Infinity and Mercury. We have also done it on the Rydam and Westedam. Given a choice HAL is it. The food on Celebrity may have been better, but HAL has more Glacier Bay permits and other little touches like free pop corn in movie theater and hot snacks in bars before dinner. We also had a horrible time on the Celebrity transalantic in May and will be back on HAL in the fall due to Celebrity ignoring my complaint letters. The verandas are a waste of time in Alaska as we found out on two cruises. They are too cold too use without a coat. Enjoy, I see no Celebrity in my future.
I love the idea that HAL has dedicated movie theaters.
I hate the fact that HAL lets large groups schedule activities in the movie theater that would conflict when people might like to view a movie there. (There is a group that will take over the Wajang theatre on several occasions on an upcoming Alaska sailing.)
Munching on popcorn prior to watching a movie is one thing, but during a movie it is annoying to hear the chomping. I never eat during a movie. I think it is rude.
