We did our own thing when we got off the ship. The price is almost half of what the ship charges. There are tons of different tours to take.We did an island tour(we were 16) in St Marten($16.00 PP).Two of the boys did there own tour. They had a van take them bar hopping to the French and then the Dutch side. They spent I lot of time on Orient Beach(nude). We did a tour and snorkel trip in St.Thomas.Half the group went back to the ship after the tour and half went snorkling. They are very aware about the time you must be back to the ship.I wouldn't recomend the Atlantis tour. Do it on your own.You are only allowed to use the casino and to see the fish tanks. You must have an all access wrist band to go any further onto the property.Take a water taxi or a reg.taxi to Atlantis walk around then use the money you would have spent on the tour in a slot machine.
Rent snorkel gear in advace for Half Moon Cay. We didn't do this and all gear was gone when we got to the Island. We did rent rafts for floating.I think the snorkling on the beach is the best at St.Thomas.
thank you so much. We figured we'd do Atlantis on our own, just didn't know how far it was from the dock but it sounds like no problem to get a taxi there, that's great. Was snorkeling good at half moon cay or would you suggest we sign up for an activity there (and great tip on the snorkel gear)?
I don't think it's worth it to beach snorkel.Everyone seems to be having a great time on the banana boat.My feeling was to just swim and relax. We didn't want to go out on another boat to do anything.By the time you get to the island, swim, drink(don't forget to have one of those frozen things!) and have a really nice barbeque it's time to go back.
Hi Ann-my family and I are also going ont he Z Aug 2nd. Can't wait. We are a group of 7-my parents (50's) My brother, step brother and I (mid-late 20's) and a friend and her daughter. How about you? We are also trying to decide what to do onshore. So far I think we are going snorkling in St Martin and probally St Thomas. I want to see Atlantis also in the Bahamas and am wondering if non hotel stayeres are allowed to wander around the hotel.
Well see yu on board.
Going to Atlantis you can wander around the casino and the aquarium Period! Only guests with wrist bands who are staying at the property can access the grounds. That includes the bars and restraunts. There are only two places to eat a deli and a grill in the casino. The aquarium takes maybe half an hour and if you don't like casinos there is not much else to do.You can access Atlantis beach from the public beach but beware of the peddlars bothering you for every which way! You can not sit on Atlantis beaches without that wrist band.
I am also going on the Aug 2 cruise with my husband a a 13 year old. We have done these ports before but are trying some different excursions since we have a teenager with us. We have signed up for the America's cup race in St. Martin and have booked a room at the comfort suites in Nassau so we will have access to Atlantis and all the water activities. My husband is golfing in St. Thomas at Mahogany Run so I thought we would see Coral World and then go to Coki Beach. I also loved snorkeling in St. John last time we were there. Kathy
Wow, earlier messages said that you could only see the aquarium and use the casino and beach with the 25 admission but you couldn't use all the fun pools and slides etc. I even called Atlantis directly and they said you had to book a room to gain access to everything. Did you get into the pools? Where did you get the wristband?
The casino and aquarium are free to anyone, you don't have to have a wrist band. Last time we just walked around and did not go into the beach area or pools. I could be wrong but I was told the $25 wristband gave you use of the pools and the beach.
Anyone know anything different? I was thinking of getting a wristband this time, nothing else to do in Nassau except go to the market. They sell the same merchandise (junk) that is sold in every port. Nasau is not one of my favorite ports.
We sailed the Zuiderdam in Februrary and we did the St. John/Trunk Bay Beach tour from St.Thomas........
It was fantastic! Aside beautiful Half Moon Cay, Trunk Bay beach was one of the most beautiful places we've ever seen. It was so nice to just relax there on a beautiful beach while thinking of our friends back up in Connecticut dealing with snow and ice!!
There were several other cruise ship excursions there but the numbers of people seemed to fit and it didnt feel over crowded. There was a nice little snack shack, gift shop, and shower/changing stations. Since it is a National Park, it was clean and just really nice way to spend your day.
I met several people who really liked the shore excursion to the Atlantis Resort and we did a island van tour of St. Ktts. That was ok, but not the best.
Half Moon Cay has tons of things to do. Couple of our friends did the snorkeing while others did the parasailing. We were there on Valetines day and it was just lovely, the weather was perfect and we just enjoyed doing nothing but lying in the sun and swimming in the beautiful blue green clean water, boring I know, but hey, thats the fun of it, you do what you like and let your friends do what they like, right?
Hope this info is helpful and enjoy the Zuiderdam!!
We're making our reservations now for the Oosterdam for February, cant wait!!!
