We were in Aruba for a port call last october.
After 20 or so cruises, Aruba is one of the 2-3 ports I would go back to as
a vacation destination. It has nice people, beaches, & the Jolly Roger pirate cruise.
What more could you ask for.
My wife and I were to Aruba for 2 weeks in '95. It is certainly worth the trip. We had good deal at was then the "Americana" now the "Occidental Grand". However I think now it is little expensive to go. Our total cost then was about $3200, it cost that much now for one.
Then being said we really did enjoy it. It is one of islands that really feel safe travelling around the it on your own.
We stayed for ten days at the Hyatt in Aruba about 4 years ago. We loved it. Beautiful property with a fabulous beach. Large casino and top notch staff. We would happily return there anytime.
There are many fine restaurants around the Island. Dining in these nicer places is costly but very well done and IMO worth the prices. Of course, any resort location has inflated prices but sometimes you do not get the quality we enjoyed in Aruba.
Plenty of shopping if that interests you.
Interesting island in that the island certainly has plenty of nice beaches but also many areas have a real dessert feel to it.
Be prepared for wind....it is often moderately windy there.
Aruba is safe, clean and friendly. Weather is perfect almost all year round. Shopping is top 3 in Caribbean. Check out deals through large travel agencies such as Liberty Travel. Seven days at one of the nicer all inclusives (including air from NY)
can be had for about $1200 to $1400 per person. Great island for beaches, water sports, casinos, shopping and just about everything else.
