Default soap&shampoo

Thought I'd ask. Is a cruise ship like a hotel? In the way they provide toiletries? If yes what might a HAL cruise provide? Thanks, A.O'H.

HAL provides face soap, bath soap, and a paper container with a shampoo/conditioner combination.

My advice.....Bring your own shampoo and conditioner. I did not like the one supplied by HAL.

P.S. I did not like the shampoo/conditioner supplied by the Princess Cruise line either.

There is also a shower cap. (Incidentally, I like their shampoo.)

HAL does not supply a bottle of conditioner but I can't remember if there is conditioner in the shampoo as I did not use it recently. I have to use a special shampoo so always bring my own.

I loved the new soap they had and the bars were quite large. It had a nice fragrance to it and was very creamy.

A shower cap is provided and if you only use it once, as they are quite thin, the cabin steward will replace it. If he forgets, just ask him for another one.

Hi, I brought home one of each of the toiletries provided to us on the Veendam last month. In addition to one bar of bath soap, one bar of facial soap and one plastic shower cap, there was also some shampoo and some body lotion.

The shampoo has a picture of a windmill on it and is called "Royal Dutch Conditioning Shampoo" and comes in a 2 oz. plastic bottle. It was sufficient to condition my husband's short hair, but not my long tresses. HAL does NOT provide separate conditioner, unfortunately. Be sure to pack your own.

They DO provide a 2 oz. plastic bottle of "Royal Dutch Moisturizing Body Lotion".

Our toiletries were not replenished automatically, and only came after I called a second time (different day) to get some more soap. Although the bar soap is of good size, and there is a facial bar, too, after nearly a week on board, I had to break one bar of soap in half in order to have soap both at the sink and in the tub. As soon as I dried off, I called to complain and then got a basket with duplicates of nearly everything, more than needed. It would have been better if the room steward had simply replenished the soap earlier, or if he had left an extra where we could have opened it ourself when we felt we needed it. I recall reading someone mention this soap issue before with HAL.

I've been reading the posts for a little over two months now, but I haven't seen any information regarding attached blow-dryers in the bathroom. I've been on a number of cruises, and since this is my first time on HAL, would like to know if the cabins have them installed, or do I need to bring my blowdryer too?

Good question! We had an SS suite on the Oosterdam & the hairdryer was in the drawer of the dressing table. It worked well.

I haven't been on a HAL cruise yet (only one more month!!!), but on both NCL and RCCL, there were hairdryers supplied. I think you can check on their website and it might tell you. I hope so...I hate to pack that huge thing!

Don't know what ship you are on but all HAL ships, except the Noordam I believe, have wall mounted hairdryers in the bathroom. Some people don't think they have enough power, especially for long hair, but as mine is short, they are fine and I don't have to take my own.

We have been on five HAL ships. they
all had wall mounted hair dryers.
On the last two {Volendaam & Amsterdaam}
they got so hot I had to wrap a towel
around the handle to hold them.
I plan to bring my own in January.
