I am told that prior to docking in St. Thomas, HAL used to allow passengers to disembark at St. Johns. I don't know any details, but a friend who is a former HAL employee assures me they used to do this. Does anyone have any information?
If you are going to run with the big dogs, you had better learn to pee in the tall grass!
... and the Norwegian S/S Norway did this as well prior to her explosion this past May (just to share some insight).
It was extremely helpful for our wedding on St John (March 2003) to be able to tender/ferry directly from the ship to St John before the ship started tendering passengers to St Thomas! When clearing immigration on St John, there is actually an immigration office right there at the National Park dock - we just cleared immigration, then left the gated area to head over to the beach for our wedding! (We used this same immigration office last Thanksgiving while on vacation on St John - had taken a day sail to the BVI and had to go through immigration upon returning to St John that evening)
We are now looking VERY FORWARD to our first HAL cruise in November!
