Osito....Ten of us took an Alaskan cruise on the Statendam in 7/2000 and we loved
the Ship. As with most Holland ships they are very negotiable and one cannot
get lost.....even if they wanted to!
The Dining Room was very elegant and the Lido dining area was also very nice.
We had four C Categories and one Suite adjacent to the Penthouse. I was very
impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms and spaciousness. Everyone in the
C categories were VERY happy with their accommodations and enjoyed coming
up to the suite to view the beauty of Alaska. My husband and my daughter went
to see a movie one day and they felt like they were in a theatre....comfy seats and
great popcorn......(apparently a couple of the newer ships do not have that
Theatre feeling anymore)....
Now that was four years ago and many cruisers later......I don't know if its showing
any wear and tear.....but, if so, it's still a beautiful ship!
Last September I was on the "S-Dam" in Alaska. GREAT SHIP!! It has the bells and whistles of the mega ships but is small and more intimate. It is a classy ship! It has the amibance of a bigone era with among other things, 2 million dollors in antique art.
We were on the Southbound cruise on Statendam June 2002 and it was our best cruise, ship, service ever. This size and type of ship is my clear preference as opposed to the almost all balconies, no open deck designs on most new ships and other lines.
I'm on the Statendam now heading for Hawaii. The ship is nice but is showing her age, a lot of things are worn and need replacing. There a couple of elevators broken which jams things up. The food is great as is the service.
