In addition to my thoughts and prayers, I opened my pocketbook and put some $$ into the International Red Cross coffers. They indicate they are directing the bulk of their efforts into Sri Lanka and Indonesia. We feel a more direct link to Indonesia as so many of the wonderful staff we have known come from there.
According to a HAL spokesperson (as reported on a different website) not many of their staff were affected by the quake/tsunami. Those that were (or might be) were given free telephone calls from their ships to home to check on family. Anyone needing it will given an airplane trip home and back to the ship. The back to the ship might sound a bit heartless to some but what these folks need is the money they earn to get whatever is left of their families back on their feet in a safe location.
