What are the average disembarkation times for Carribean cruises returning to Fort Lauderdale (specifically Zuiderdam)? HAL lists the return time as 8:00 AM but what can I safely assume with regard to return flight planning. Thanks.
Don't book any flights before noon. You have no idea whether the ship will be late arriving in port, whether Immigration will delay disembarkation, or some idiot won't respond to "please report to the Front Desk" to pay his/her bill.
FLL airport is a nightmare - long lineups at the check in counters and same through security.
Last March we had a 1:30 p.m. return flight and got there with plenty of time to spare.
Our listed cruise return time was 8:00 a.m. but we actually arrived at 7:00 a.m.
Traffic can be a factor. It is much less stressful to give yourself ample time.
We also will be sailing the Zuiderdam and booked an 11am flight, we know things will be tight. Holland America has a policy that lets you be the first to disembark if you take all your luggage with you. Last cruise leaving out of Ft. lauderdale we were at the airport @ 10:00am and we traveled from the port of Miami.
We were on the Oosterdam, returning to FLL in January. Disembarkation time is entirely up to US customs. Even tho we were in FLL and docked very early, we were in the first group to leave the ship (minutes after the suite people) at 8:40 am. Best to take cab to arport, else you will wait and wait for bus to fill at pier. We have been off much earlier than this at other times, but Hal emphasizes that it is necessary for customs to clear the ship first and that time cannot be predicted..
