We were there a year ago and were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of snorkeling off HMC. We thought that it compared to the snorkeling excursion we took off St. John. Other than taking in the BBQ and listening to some of the musical performers, I spent most of my time snorkeling at HMC. Can't wait to go back there.
Thank you so very much for the information. I, too, have been pleasantly surprised at how good the snorkeling can be at cruise lines private islands...especially Princess Cays. Now I R E A L L Y look forward to our time at HMC! That will probably be our best stop on the western cariibean route we're on this time.
as we were leaving HMC, we saw some fanciful shapes of animals in the shallow water--it looked like a lovely water park for children...........
BBQ was substantial--chicken, fish, burgers, salads, fruit, cookies, brownies......
also liked booking massages for that day at the little massage tent on the beach..
we had a beautiful day on HMC and the only thing that upset us was some guy--complete with vest- casting in the shallow water where we were swimming! i cannot imagine what he thought he would catch there--probably a snorkeler!
We were at HMC a year ago in April and it was probably our favorite day of the cruise. If you are renting the snorkeling gear, be sure to do so on board though. We had done our first snorkeling ever that week in Cozumel and decided to wait until we were ashore in HMC to see what the conditions were. When we did try to rent, we would have had to wait several hours before any might have been available. In the end, we didn't snorkel, but loved HMC just for the swimming, walking the beach, and relaxing. Enjoy.
Right off the beach was excellent for us a year ago.
We went out along the rocky shoreline/wall to the right from the beach facing the ship.
There are some artificial reef structures in the shallows, but we found the best was all the way out in the deeper water.
Hi, We were there on the Volendam, and went to HMC last Wednesday. It was wonderful!!! No jellyfish, just sand, sun, snorkel and smiles.... what a wonderful day - lots of food (all free). If you can try to rent a clam shell on the ship (or before). They don't have too many, are only $9.00 a day and the shade is handy as the sun is really strong! Have a great trip.
