We were in an SS on the Westerdam and loved it. As there were 3 of us, having the big bathroom with a separate shower stall was a plus. We didn't need all the amenities, like the Neptune Lounge or free laundry service, nor did we want to pay the price of a Suite. The SS suited us to a T.
The SS is wonderful! We're doing our 5th Zuidy in 11 days, and are in an SS again. We've had Cat A on the wake, Cat S on the wake and the side, and SS, and for the price, SS is great! The bathroom has lots of room, double sink, double cabinets, jacuzzi tub/shower and separate shower, extra desk room overlooking the veranda... heaven!
We had an SS on Zuiderdam last year and we loved it! We had more room than we needed actually. The closet area was more than adequate and the verandah seemed huge. We were in SS 8058. We couldn't get an SS for our upcoming trip so I hope we won't be too disappointed. We got a deluxe verandah cabin (VA). If anyone has had an SS and also a VA cabin, can you tell me what you thought?
We had Cat A 5180 & 5181, and Cat SS 6098, and Cat S 7087 and 6167. We were spoiled silly with the Cat S and wish we could afford it every time. We enjoyed the Cat A only because it was a wake cabin. We thought it was too narrow, but was offset by the triple veranda. The Cat SS is the best of both - double sink & double cabinets, jacuzzi tub and separate shower in the bathroom, extra real estate inside, and desk/cabinet space in front ot the extra window. My wife and I stayed in the "SS" category suite last year. They are perfect. There is plenty of space and the balcony is pretty big. My friends stayed in the "S" suites and they do have some interesting perqs such as free laundry, a lounge for "S" category passengers only and special hors d'oeuvres served at any time requested. If I were to travel with HAL again I would still book the "SS" category. Have fun!
