We are considering a Western Caribbean cruise next April. HAL choices for our dates look like the Westerdam, which we sailed last month, or the Veendam. I'm curious to hear any comments on the Veendam. We have also sailed on the Zaandam in the past and loved it.
If you liked the WEsterdam, stick with a winner...it's your $$$ after all.
Veendam is older, smaller, very much like Zaandam, and IMO , better.
As well, I think she will have had her '' mid-life '' drydock for the '' signature of excellence'' refit....out of which all the older ships emerge as literally '' re-created'' and right up to the minute with upgrades and, mechanically, all refitted.
I am happy to hear the responses about the Veendam. We are booked, with our adult daughter, for the April 15 sailing. Our 2 previous cruises were both on the Zuiderdam. Our daughter has never cruised before so we are excited about taking her with us. She is also very enthused about it. She is in her 20's, but said it doesn't matter if there are others her age...she's going cruising so she can be with US! Isn't that sweet of her?
I went on the Veendam to Alaska in August. The staff is great the ship is very clean. My only complaint is that the boat is very boring to me. I am 46 and after 10:00 there were only a handful of people our age still up in the club dancing. The ship is full of older people. Maybe in the Carribean it will be a better ship with more to do. Have fun
