Holland America claims to have a single share program. My question is has anyone ever been able to book a cabin under this program. And if so how was your cabinmate match?
Seems like when I inquire about the share program,it's either not available or the agents quote me a single supplement fare.
I've sailed on HA and really enjoyed their service.
I did successfully book a cruise with an online travel service, but had to cancel my reservation a month later for a family emergency. Not all online services do it, in fact, few do.
How did I find out who did? I just went through the whole reservation process (yes, every screen) and at the end you will know if they recognize the Share program by offering you either a GUAR or SHAR category. If you pick the SHAR, you will pay only the per person/double price and the cruise line will attempt to match you up with another like cruiser who is also travelling alone on the same itinerary. You might get a roomie, and you might not. In any case, you still pay only the pp/double price for one person. www.bestpricecruises.com has the HAL SHAR category .... but only after you go through all the screens to select a stateroom.
Hope this helps.

I'm booked on the Ryndam 2/19/05 14day southern Caribbean booked a share with AAA category E (large outside) I've traveled with HAL before at the single rate and thought I'd give the share a try. I think I have a good chance of no roommate due to the length of this cruise,or I'll get a lady like myself who's healthly (no meds) and willingly to travel alone.ANy older people out there who've tried the share on HAL?
This share program sounds great. It's just what my husband and I have been looking for.
My brother who frequently travels with us, (he is in his early 50's) finds it very expensive to pay for a cabin for two, but since he has no one else to who is interested in cruising he's stuck. This share program may be just what he needs.
This type of shared information is what makes CruiseMates priceless!!!
I have used the Single Share program on HAL twice, and each time have had the cabin to myself. One was a 10 day and one a 7 day. Both were in early December. I too am only in my cabin to sleep, shower and change clothes and long ago learned to sleep with ear plugs.
