We are cruising to Alaska on May 20th.
What is the scoop on having hard sided luggage. Also any other tips would be usefull, as this is our first cruise!!

You are going to love Alaska! We will be going on our 4th cruise to Alaska also in May 2006. Are you leaving from Seattle or Vancouver? Either way, security will be going through your luggage. We've only taken softsided luggage- 2 rolling 28" duffle type & 1 garment bag. I pack half mine & half his in each one- just in case one doesn't come with us. I've used clear zippered plastic bags to pack clothes in. Security at airport & customs can just pick up, look, feel, & put back nice & neat (they also work for dirty laundry on the return trip). We've packed 2 bottles of wine in the middle & so far none have broken. You will not need more than 1 pair of shorts unless you use the excercise equipment. Layers are better than bulky. Enjoy!

Thank you! We are leaving out of Seattle. We are not going through airport though, we live about 80 miles away from the cruise port so will be driving to it. I bought new soft sided luggage and we are going to use zip ties for the locks.

Default Alaska bound

Yes we now use softsided luggage as well your able to neatly pack items for the cruise and more of them in less space..

Only on one line so far we have had damage and then the bags did not arrive to our rooms for over SIX hours.. we had to go et them even...

Alaska is so wonderful ( No other place on Earth like it except the Yukon and NWT)and depending upon your desires, money available and locations your going to is a factoring with many of your decisions.. Sitka is great.. as is one nice kinda touristy spot near the Yukon border too there your shopping dollar works best...
