Default Deck Chairs! Please tell me it's not a problem on HAL

My wife and I love Cruising; we have been on 8 cruises, including RCL, NCL, celebrity, and Carnival. The only thing that really irritates us is the number of people that think they should be able to reserve deck chairs, leaving a towel and a pair of flip flops spread across two chairs while they go back to their cabin and who knows what for a couple hours. Please tell me that HAL's clientele is above this petty game and I will be a HAL fan from now on!

On the HAL cruises we've been on Deck chairs haven't been a problem at all. More people looking for shade, so chairs in the sun always seemed to be available.

Even so... you'll see people saving them

In fact, on the promenade deck they should have the nice teak chairs. So fun in Alaska to see people bundled up in blankets in them while the waiters serve them hot coffee & tea.

Just came off of 10 days on Veendam and ther were plenty of empty chairs almost every day I believe the older crowd will stay out of the sun for the most part.In general the chair saving is not a [problem across the board on Holland.

Not as big a problem as on other lines, but it also depends on when you are crusing. For example, if you are cruising during any of the winter breaks or during the summer when there are more family's traveling together you will see more of this.

Reserving deck chairs is not as much of a problem as in the past because more and more of the new ships have more and more private verandahs. so many people have deck chairs on their own verandahs that there is always an abundance on the public decks on HAL, especially the spacious walkaround promenades. and Lido.

It has been about 3 years since we last sailed on a HAL ship, the Rotterdam in New England, and we have also done the Veendam in the Caribbean and Alaska, and I can tell you at least back then, it was a big problem around the Lido pool -- especially on the days at sea. We had better luck on the days when we were at shore and most people are getting off the ship.

I have recently sailed on the Veendam, Rotterdam, Volendam and Westerdam and we had no problems getting a lounge around the Lido pool, even on sea days.

Very true. The Caribbean cruise during family time, March-April, June-August. There are issues involving deck chairs around the pool.

The main problem is observed is that the older passengers like to set up a chair in the shade and one in the sun, and they roam back and forth. Taking up twice the space.

I just got off the Oosterdam and this was not a problem. I especially like the wooden lounge chairs located on the Observation Deck Forward. One deck above the pool.
