Default First time...some dumb questions.....

Hi everyone....I am soooo excited, my husband and I are not only taking our first vacation sans children but out first cruise to boot. We leave from Norfolk Virginia (traveling with my sister and her husband who live in Norfolk) on March 14th to the Southern Caribbean on the Maasdam (HAL).

I'm wondering a couple of things, I am a big water drinker, have a bottle in hand at most times, can I bring bottled water on board? Also are you allowed to bring wine? Thought it might be nice to have some on hand for times when we're in the room for a bit. Also and this is where the dumb question comes in, do the cruise lines offer Splenda??? I don't like Equal or Sweet n Low and was wondering if I should bring some...What about toiletries, what can I expect to find in the bathroom????

Thanks in advance, Sally

Sally:

You can bring bottled water on board but I suggest that you use the ship's water. The desalination process will render water that is equal to what most bottled water is in terms of taste and purity.

You can also bring a moderate amount of wine on board. (A couple of bottles) If you have it for in cabin consumption there is no corkage fee. If you have it in the dining room there will be a $15 corkage fee for them to open it. This is basically a fee they charge for you to drink it in a public area.

In regard to Splenda, I'm sorry but I have no idea. I know that they will offer sugar substitutes but I don't know if it will be Splenda. Hopefully someone else will have the answer to that one.

Take care and have a FANTASTIC cruise.
Mike

To add to Mike's post, I know they have a sugar substitute, but don't know the brand name - all I can remember is that there are blue and pink packets.

At to toiletries, HAL supplies shampoo with a conditioner and body lotion & a shower cap. They are constantly changing their brands so have no idea what kind you may find on the Maasdam. If you run out of shampoo or need more shower caps, just ask your cabin steward for more.

Have a wonderful cruise. Our first one was nearly 25 years ago and we still sail at least twice a year.

Of all the cruises we have been on never seen Splenda. We have sailed Holland, RCCL, Celebrity, Princess and Carnival. Bring your own to be safe.

Bottled water is fine but as Mike commented the ships water is great, just refill some of the bottles. I've seen cases delivered with luggage to cabins.
You can also purchase bottled water in the ports.

Default No questions are ever dumb.

No questions are ever dumb and the only ones not asked are never answered...

Water is ok yes thats why the coffee and tea are not par. We have brought on water and soda pop...

Sugar substitutes are not used by us so the answer will probably done best by calling CS at Holland America and/or if you booked your cruise with a Travel Agency they may find it for you (answer)..

The newest substitute for sugar I know of is called Shugr sold at Vitamin Shoppes .. and the Chain health food stores a few supermarket chains too so far.

That is made from plants and I have tried that too.

HESG : BB is the symbol in trading.

PS: Norfolk, VA is a wonderful city there in the Commenwealth of Virginia.

Just to echo what the others have said. You can take bottled water on, You can buy it on the ship, but the ship makes it's own water from evaporators, and it is of very high quality.

I'm a Splenda guy too, and while you can find equal, i have yet to see Splenda, so take your own, I do.

Re toiletries, Holland is very good; they will supply everything that a first class hotel would.
Bon Voyage
