I just got off the Oosterdam from my 02-18-06 sailing and wanted to let people know that they are experimenting with "open seating" dining times. Those passengers whom are cofirmed with 530 or 6:15 dining have the option of entering the Vista Dining Room ANYTIME between 5:30 and 6:00pm while those confirmed w/ later dining times have the same option between the hours of 8pm and 9pm. It seems that HAL is attempting to see if flex dining works for their cruise line. I thought it was nice not having to rush to the dining room at a designated time. I think the window idea is a good one. I cant see this cruise line going to the NCL free style program, but it's nice to know that this traditional cruise line is attempting to offer some flexibility.
That's very interesting! Since cruising on Princess and NCL with totally open dining my DH refuses to cruise any other way!
Were there still assigned tables or did they just seat people who came in at the same time together?
I'd love to have another cruise option!
"A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour."
Everything is still the same. You will receive your dining room table and dining time slot on your HAL card at embarkation. Again, only difference is that you have a time period when you can enter the dining room.
i kind of like the 'window' idea. seeing several hundred diners line up like starving cattle in the corridors outside the dining room prior to 'doors open' has always seemed a little ridiculous. hombre
if you are sitting at a table with other pax it is a good idea to agree on a time for dinner -- that way everyone shows up at the same time and no one has to wait for the rest of the table to start eating and it makes the waiters llife a bit easier
