Default Veendam - refurbished?

My husband and I sailed on Oosterdam March 2005 and loved it, now we're thinking Veendam in a couple weeks - March 18 to be exact. I know this is a slightly older ship and smaller but still nice from the reviews I've read. But has the refurbishment taken place yet? Some people have said she would be in drydock in January. If so, what improvements/additions? Also if anyone has cruised this ship before - any ideas on cabins? I know not many balconys because it's an older ship but any ideas from inside/outside, deck etc? Thanks everyone.

Yes, the Veendam has had all her SOE amenities installed during drydock in January. The Java Cafe is now a wine bar; the library/card room/internet centre have been combined into the Explorations Cafe which I have seen on the Volendam and it is lovely. So open and spacious now. Check out the photos on HAL's website.

All cabins now have flat screen TV's and the new beds and bedding.

If you haven't book for March 15th yet, I doubt you will find many cabins available, especially verandah cabins. If you can get a cabin on Main deck they are very nice, but at this late date you may have no choice.

Default April 15th sailing

My husband, daughter and I are going on Veendam on April 15th. This will be our daughter's first cruise, so we are excited about taking her with us. She lives in NYC and we live in Ohio, so we only see her a few times a year. It will be such a treat to have her with us for a whole week! We've got a deluxe verandah suite so there should be plenty of room for 3. I had heard that Veendam was going to be refurbished, so that's icing on the cake!

Sailed the Veendam on Feb 18, 200 - Feb 25th, 2006.

All of the S.O.E. upgrades are in place.

Not all are being utilized as of yet. eg no culinary lessons etc in teh culinary arts centre.

The ship overall is wonderfull.

Enjoy your cruise!!!

Thank you Edward. I find myself getting so excited about this cruise that you would think it was my first! I guess it's because our daughter is coming along with us. Thinking about going to dinner and having her there just makes me smile. I just know we're going to have a terrific time.

I was on the V-Dam in Nov. and there were major problems with the plumbing. I hope those were also fixed in drydock!
If Trevor, Travis, and Goldrush Gary are still part of the Activities Crew, you can't help but have a GREAT time! They were the best activities crew we had ever encountered!

I was on the Veendam yesterday for a travel agent ship inspection and I was very impressed. The ship is very clean. The veranda cabins are really nice. We were served lunch while onboard and I must say the food was as good or better than any I have had at a ship inspection. They have also added a very nice teen area.

I was on the Veendam in late November and we had a small water problem but it was fixed within 30 mins. It had not been to drydock yet. This is my favorite ship anyway. I have a question for someone who has been on it since the drydock, the Explorations Cafe, does it have the sound stations? I was just on the inaugural voyage for the Noordam and they had sound stations along with computers, books etc in the Explorations Cafe. I loved it. Can't believe how much time I spent at the sound stations. Will be going on the Maasdam in Sept, Amsterdam in Oct-Nov and the Volendam in December. Do they all have the new Explorations Cafe? Like I said, I loved the Noordam's Ex Cafe. Very comfy chairs and the sound stations! Loved it.
