Default " RUN OF SHIP"

We are booked on the Westerdam 3/19- I am wondering if any one can answer a cabin ?. We booked Verandah with no cabin assignment as I was told by Holland you have a better chance of getting an upgrade if you wait till sailing day for cabin assignment. Has any one ever done this and if so how did it work out?. I was also told about 3 weeks ago the ship is not full so this is the best way to book. Any feedbach appreciated.. Jimmy Mc

you booked a guaranteed cabin ---many people book this way because they are hoping for a better cabin at no extra charge

the downside is you could be booked into a "better" cabin with an obstructed view or to the extrem fore or aft on the ship- which some people do not like

i always book and pay for a specific cabin on a specific deck and specific location --- and unless they are upgrading me to a suite -as one done once ---i am perfectly happy getting exactly what i paid for

Hi JimmyMc,

If you booked a "run of ship" you could end up anywhere, from the worst cabin to the best.

If you booked a guarantee the worst cabin you will get will be in the category you booked.

If the ship wasn't full after the final payment date you may have a better chance at an upgrade.

Have a great cruise no matter where you end up!

We almost always book guaranteed cabins. In 14 cruises we got upgraded all but three of those times. Once we did get put on the lower promenade deck and we did not care for that, but otherwise it was a great cabin and we have never been unhappy with any cabin.

With 30 some cruises and 111days on Holland have found that guarantee is the best wat to go for an opportunity at an upgrade. Many cruisers fail to umderstand that there may be 4 different price catagories on any given deck just for an outside room.Unless you are concerned about stern or aft on the ship go with the guarantee as most times you will move up in decks which are more expensive cabins. My thing is that all cabins are the same size unless you get into suites so I will take my chances. On our last cruise last month we only moved up 3 catagories and remained on the same deck.Who cares as you are not in your room for that much of the day and an outside room has a view period. If you have a preference for a room so be it but do not expect an upgrade when you get to the ship as this policy has been changed several years ago for a number of reasons.
