My wife and I enjoy ballroom dancing and are seriously considering the Nooradam's Sep 2006 Big Band cruise from Rome to New York. But we have a few questions.
A careful perusal of the Nooradam's floor plan shows no dance floors! Neither the Ocean Bar nor the Crow's Nest appear to have a dance floor, at least one of any size. The Queen's Lounge has a nice looking space but I don't know if they use that venue for ballroom dancing.
A note to HAL brought the response "on theme cruises like this they use various venues around the ship including the Lido Deck and the Crow's Nest". Hmmmmm......
Has anyone taken a HAL Big Band cruise recently and do HAL's Big Band cruises actually have acceptable ballroom dancing or is it primarily a listening experience?
Definitely looking at the floor plan of the "new" Nooradam. Where oh where have the dance floors gone .... to the scrapping yard every one!
We were on the old Nooradam twice, once on the Millenium cruise, and it did indeed have a very nice dance floor and the ship's orchetra actually played for dancing a several times during a two week cruise. More than I can say for todays HAL cruises.
We took the Princendam's Baltic cruise last October. Great cruise and a really great ship BUT the dance floor in the Ocean Bar was small and the four piece group seemed to play the same tunes every night. OK but not great.
Just off the "new" Noordam and I can't think of any place where they could have ballroom dancing. There's a small dance floor in the Ocean Bar and one in the Crow's Nest.
I can't see them having dancing on the stage, although if it's big enough for the entertainment group of dancers, then it's probably big enough for ballroom dancing. Maybe the Big Band Music is only for listening - have not idea.
You will love the ship - it's absolutely beautiful and the crew is wonderful.
