Rob - you will love the Noordam. She is a big, beautiful ship.
HAL adds $10.00 per day to your shipboard account to cover gratuities. If you want to give anyone an extra tip, you can do that. If you opt out of the $10.00 per day charge, the staff member will have to put that money into a "pool", whereas if you stay with the program anything you give them extra, they will be able to keep.
If you are on a 10 day, then you will have 3 formal, 2 informal and 5 casual nights. Jeans and shorts are not allowed in the dining room in the evening.
I think you'd be best to pick up a HAL brochure and check out the different types of cabins they have on the ship. Also, check out HAL's web site www.hollandamerica.com
. At the very bottom of the home page (in small print) click on "frequently asked questions
". A lot of your questions about dressed code will be answered there. On the HAL site if you clock on "Elegant Ships
" then click on Noordam
, they will give you a deck plan and pictures of the various cabins.
If there is anything else we can help you with, please ask.
Have a great time.
