Default New Traffic on the Boards

I have noticed a lot of postings from those that have come over here from the CC boards. apparently they are having some major problems over there.

Well, their loss is our gain. Perhaps now there will be more daily traffic on this board.

There's always the truly "cruise afflicted" who visit many of the Internet cruise boards. Just helps pass the time between cruises

But we certainly want to make any new folks visiting feel welcome. Your opinions and experiences are vital to the message boards!

I've posted 'over there' for years and come here for years also. See my 'join date'. I've always enjoyed both boards.

It's cold in New England and I'm home more. More free time etc

I see familiar names on both Boards and that's fun.

No reason to stick with only one Board IMO

Wasn't referring to you S7S. I know you've been here awhile. But I have seen new users. I think it's great. We can always use more and better discussions.

there are several people, myself included, who have joined this board a while back. However, the problem in the past with this board is that there simply hasn't been enough traffic on it to hold one's interest. You post a query, and come back a week later only to find no responses. That's why traffic here has probably been light.

But since CC has encountered so many problems in recent months, it seems like a lot of people are throwing up their hands in disgust and looking for new forums in which to participate.

CC better get their act together ... or the board is literally going to die.

Blue skies ...

I be a newbie!!

Have only done four cruises in my lifetime (see...I DEFINITELY am a newbie compared to some other well-versed travelers ), but my husband and I are slated for our first HAL adventure on April 7.

Did come over here from cruisecritic.com (22 posts on that forum), but not necessairily because of posting problems. Just thought it would be fun to meet a new bunch of folks...or perhaps catch-up with names which have now become familiar.

Hey, folks! Another CM newbie. I also have become weary of the technical issues "over there" so thought I'd head over to see what's happening here.

Hey Jim and Rita-

Well, here we are. Let's see how this goes. Anything is better than the WSOD.

Thanks to everyone on this site who has welcomed us! It may take a while to get used to but we are happy to be here.

Hi Underwatergal! Where are you going on your HAL cruise?

I am from Phoenix, (Squaw Peak, Biltmore area). Are you located near me?

Also, I did Google on WSOD and all I got was World Series of Darts. What is that?

Or is it "white screen of death?"

Hi cruznon! Are you a HAL lover, too? You see familiar names but you have never been here? I always find that amazing since we have been online since 1999 and broke off from CC back then. The founder of CruiseMates was the original "cruise critic" from 1994-99 back when CC was just on AOL. Anne Campbell. She was with CruiseMates until last year.

When we broke offfrom CC back in 99 we brought a lot o their most ardent posters with us, and many of them are still frinds today. Our Kuki and CC's Simi are still good friends.

I am so happy you all are here and I hope you stay. At the risk of tooting (my own horn, that is), I think you will find people here acting a little more maturely, not getting offended so easily, etc.

Our crowd is a little more cruise savvy, and not so many silly questions every day like

" Can I bring alcohol on board?"
" No? Well what about beer?"

Anyway - welcome!

And by the way - we are interested in taking on an official host for this message board. Knowledge of Holland America required. If you also know other cruise lines very well (one or more) that helps, but not required.

The pay is small, but the perks are possibly many. Please email me with some personal background if you are interested.

Thanks for the welcome, Paul

I am back home in Tucson, for the moment. Hubby and I have lived several different places in the U.S. (and for three months in the BVI) but always seem to drift back to Saguaro Land.

Our destination in April is Mexico. We are used to flying to San Carlos for diving expeditions, but this time it'll be the cruise ship as our means of transport. Can't wait!!

Hi friends. I go by another name on the "other" board. It's nice to see you all over here for a change.

Paul, I am from the Scottsdale area. Looks as if we are neighbors.

Another defector....

Okay, not really a defector, but I'm happy to have found another place where I can discuss and learn about cruising in general and HAL in particular. I just joined the other board about three months ago when my DD told me about it prior to my January Zaandam cruise. Now I'm hooked -- already booked by second HAL cruise while on board my first, and look forward to many, many more.

Aside from the other board getting frustrating, I though it would be fun to check out another BB for a change. Glad I found you!

I can't be a "defector" since this is my favorite Cruise Site! I do read and post on both (mostly the roll call boards "over there"), but the people here are so much friendlier!

I've found that I can post any "silly" question here and get an answer, not a "put down" or a suggestion that I do a "search" .

I think all of you from "over there" will enjoy these boards!

Just found this site last week. I will go to any board to get my cruise "fix". I do not have a cruise booked (just got off Zaandam last month) so I am really going through withdrawals. I have been toying around with a few ideas for this fall - so that is helping.

You're an April cruiser too, huh?

My long-awaited April destination will be a TransAtlantic on the Veendam ... 18 days of pure bliss ... starting in Tampa and ending in Venice, Italy. Two days in Venice, followed by an overnight in London, and I head back to the States via the QE2.

Life doesn't get much better, does it?

Blue skies ...

. Actually, the HAL board is not that bad. CCL will drive you INSANE- seriously- the above exchange would be more like:

"Can I bring alkl on board?"
"NO, I dn't see why people ask ths!!! "
"On Senation, I meen."
"If you don't lik policies, don't croose!!"

You had mentioned in another post that you were going to have seven days at sea before your first port. Was going to pop in and ask that all important question "Where are you going?? " but decided to check the rest of the forum first. Glad I did...cause here is your answer.

Whoa....what a marvelous trip you have planned!! Hope you're taking a journal along to record every single detail. This lady wants all the news

We are new at posting but almost old hands at cruising (Amsterdam, Maasdam, Vendam,Rotterdam). We are going out of Lauderdale on April 30 and disembarking in Vancouver and staying 3 days. Should be fun. Will Vancouver be cold, hot, or medium in May?

Most definitely! In fact, if I can get my laptop configured before I leave, I plan to keep the journal electronically. If not, then I'll post a virtual "play by play" from the ship's internet center.

I made up my mind last year ... no more "shorty" cruises for me. I just don't enjoy them. I find the ambience on the ship to be entirely different between a seven or ten-day cruise, and a longer voyage. So, from here on out, I will cruise only once a year ... but it will be a nice voyage, much longer in duration. While this Veendam cruise is really not a very long one ... only 18 days ... it is longer than many, and it will be capped off with a crossing on the QE2 to get back home.

After this, I won't cruise again until January, I'm afraid ... and that one will be 30 blissful days aboard the Ryndam ... sailing the wonderful Islands of Aloha and the South Pacific.

Blue skies ...

I don't think it's problems necessarily, I think it's a combination of discovering this board and the over rush hour traffic on CC that slows everything down.
