Does it cost anything to get into the Burchart Gardens if you go on your own? I noticed the excursion cost $65 for 1 adult and I was wondering why the cost? It sounds like it's just a trip to the gardens. We have an evening stop in Victoria, 6 pm to 11:59 pm, so I would definitely like to do this.
With a crowded cruise is it easy to get taxis or shuttles to the garden? We are taking a july 8-15 cruise and this is a Saturday evening stop for us. I believe our cruise ship is completely booked cause there are offerings to give up our cabins.
It was a great place to visit. Yes it is a trip to the gardens but so much more than that. Truly beautiful!!

Having been to the Gardens before, I would take the excursion from the ship. We drove over with friends from Vancouver and spent the whole day there....there's lots to see. The problem with going on your own is that you may have trouble getting a taxi back to the ship and possibly miss the sailing.
We went on our own before and it is really beautiful. This was years ago and I know it was expensive then. Do not plan to eat anything there unless you have won the lottery. I remember years ago, we got 2 basic sandwiches there on white bread, something your kid could make at home better for 50 cents, and they were $12.50 each American money. I still remember it to this day.
Butchart is very nice. Been there. It wouldn't be a MUST SEE on my list. If you decide that is for you, take the excursion. Your time frame is very limited and you'd hate to miss the ship. However, Victoris is a lovely, very walkable town. Get off, walk, have dinner and enjoy the street life. It's charming.
Take the excursion there because of limited time. BTDT at night - it is lit and cool. literally so bring a sweater. 8)
