Default We didn't get a Holland cruise pin.

On Carnival you get a cruise pin (it's like a lapel pin) for each cruise you take. We didn't get one for our Holland cruise. Does Holland not give out cruise pins?

HAL does not do this unless you have a certain # of days on HAL.

25 days you get a blue pin
50 days a red pin
100 days a bronze pin and a bronze medal
300 days a silver pin and a silver medal
500 days a gold pin and a gold medal
750 days a platinum pin and a platinum medal

So if this was your first HAL cruise you wouldn't get any pins. Now that you have sailed once with HAL, you are considered a Mariner and the only thing you would get is a Mariner #, and the advantage of booking at Mariner prices, which is not that big a deal.

Sorry!

You will also get an invitation to Mariners Party which is held on every HAL cruise. They're fun.

Not that I think I would ever have beyond 750 days ... I simply don't cruise enough to ever get there ... but what happens with these people who have thousands of days onboard HAL ships? Surely, they must continue to get Mariner level rewards?

There was one lady ... can't remember how many days she had ... but it was well into the thousands ... at one of the Mariner parties. When the captain introduced her, and she rose up from her walker to take her bows ... he said something along the lines that they didn't have a medal for the number of days she had earned. He said he just gives her the keys to the ship.

Blue skies ...

I asked a friend who has over 1200 days on HAL if they give anything after the 750 day pin/medal and she said

[i]
"After the 700-day Platinum Medal they do not give anything until a few receive the President's Award Pin for 1400 days or more. They have mostly been given to clients of a certain travel agency, however, she heard recently that there is one person, who is not a cleint of this particular agency, who has a President's Award pin. Most of those people have been on many World Cruises. Other than that they don't give out anything."/i]

Another 30 days and we'll have our 500 day gold pin.

Wow! Suprising. I would have thought they'd move away from medals and toward nice "gifts" for the few people in the thousands of days onboard ... stuff like a minieature crystal model of the ship they achieved the milestone on ... things along that order.

Blue skies ...

By then the folks are just about residents. They are treated very well. Haven't run into any in years, but expect many hang out on the new Rotterdam, just as they did on the old Rotterdam. 8)

Do you meant Mariner Pins, like the ones given for 50, 100, 300 and 500 & 750 days, or do you mean those big white and blue crappy metal buttons they send with the docs which most people throw in the garbage.

Do you mean you didn't throw them away as soon as you got them?

Gee, maybe you can seel them on e-Bay. You might get a buck for them. That's probably more than it cost HAL to have them made.

Remove the pin, glue a big round, powerful magnet on the back and you have a nice refridgerator magnet to remind you of your cruise.
