Default Night life on HAL

Hello. I would like to know what type of "night life" (comedy, movies, games, etc) should I expect on a HAL ship, particularly on an Alaska cruise. Thanks.

I recently returned from a HAL (ZUIDERDAM) cruise to Alaska.

Not sure if the 21.00 lights out was a serious comment. Either way the entertainment goes on to at least about midnight or possibly later (never stayed up too late as the day time activities/sightseeing can require an early start) ie Glacier Bay starts at 7.00 although it is not compulsory to be on deck at this time, but how often do you get to go to Alaska!

Each evening there is a show either a "Las Vegas" type musical or a comedian or a magician or a ventriloquist. The show lasts one hour. There is also a film. Each bar usually has live music varying from jazz to classical and some or all (not sure) where you can dance. There was a late night disco (I never attended so can't comment).

One night there was a culinary display (again did not go).

Finally there is the casino and the midnight buffet.

Thanks. The 21.00 lights out scared me for a moment. I'm not into party, disco or casino but would enjoy the comedy, movie, or culinary display. I'm willing to stay up because as you say, how often do we get to go to Alaska? So we must be able to take it all in, or as most as we can.

depends on your fellow passengers..we were on the Zuiderdam in Nov of 2005, fairly lively group of fellow passengerss so the night life was pretty active..lots of great conversations in the open lounges late into the evening and nice music

Spinnaker Lounge?? - HAL ships don't have a Spinnaker Lounge. Are you thinking of the Crow's Nest or the Ocean Bar or some other cruise line?

Venice, too funny...we were on the "Z," 10/15/2005. Maybe we cruised together and didn't know it! Sadly on our cruise, there was not not much night life..maybe they were all with you on the lounge:)

The 21:00 lights out is clearly a joke. The ship generally hums until about midnight, 1:00 a.m. There will be a show in the main showroom each night ... usually keyed to your dinner time ... early show and late show. This will be either a broadway-type production by the ship's cast, or it will be a guest performer ... perhaps a comic or a musician. You will also have music in all the lounges and bars, with various combos playing. For example, a classical trio in the Explorer's Lounge, a piano player in the piano bar, etc.

Then, of course, there's the casino and the movie theater. Many nights recently-released movies (ones that have just gone to video) will be shown in the Wajung (sp?) Theatre.

Believe me, midnight turning in is no problem on a busy cruise. If you've been exploring in port all day, you'll be only too happy to see your cabin (with your bed turned down and a chocolate on your pillow) by midnight or so.

Blue skies and enjoy your cruise.

I agree that there is usually always activity of some sort until midnight. Remeber though in Alaska it doesn't get totally dark, so you may be fooled into thinking that it is earlier than it really is.
