Anyone been on the Oosterdam since they started open seating? What is your opinion, should we do it or not. Like the idea I may eat at different times, I usually like late seating but some days I would like early. All replies are appreciated.

We just finished open seating on the Ryndam.
I would imagine that it is very similar.
Open seating gives you at least a 3 hour window to eat in the dining room.
The service is pretty slow but I think that may be the staff adjusting to something other than two set meal times.
We never made reservations yet waited only ten minutes at the most.

Surprisingly, we would order from the dining room menu in the the Lido or our room and get much, much quicker service.
Peace through superior firepower.

" Is traditional seating still available as well?"

Yes, it is. They still have early traditional seating and late traditional seating as well as the new "Anytime Dining".

I can understand why some people prefer Anytime Dining. I think it's great on a long cruise. But there something so neat about traditional dining, especially on Holland America.

You have the same waiters every night. They get to know you and vice versa. You get to know your table mates. For me, it's part of the cruise experience much the same as formal nights.

Traditional is still available, but there's no guarantee you'll get it. Therefore, the dining may not be "as you wish", but "as the cruise line wishes".
