Hi all, we'll be doing a ten day tour of alaska in July and I have a quick question. The cruise will be seven days and then there's three days in McKinley and Anchorage...since I've gotten such mixed answers regarding weather and I'd rather not pack my entire wardrobe I'm thinking that one load of laundry might be in order while on the ship. (I'm thinking of long sleeve Ts and short sleeve Ts for mix and match layering, plus a columbia raincoat with a zipout polar fleece lining - does that sound right?)
Do you need quarters for the machines or can you use your room card? If we need quarters does anyone know how many each machine takes? We were on the Maasdam two years ago and I remember looking at the laundry room but can't remember the details... In case the ships are different (laundry room wise) we'll be on the Volendam this time. Thanks for your help!!
As I never use the self-service laundry room on the ship (I do enough at home ) Ican't help you with the price. I always send out anything that needs to be laundered - it's well worth the price, which isn't very much.
I doubt you will need a zip-out fleece lining in July.
I've been to Alaska in June and the end of August and never needed more than the shell of my winter jacket. On the days when it was cold, I would wear a long sleeve t-shirt, cotton knit sweater, and the shell. Both times I took a pair of polo pajama pants and never wore them. You may want to take a pair of shorts just in case it is hot. Layering is the best way to go. Don't forget to take a wool hat and gloves for those cold days.
You may find the weather in July very warm to hot.
