They usually have a birthday cake for the "birthday" person, which IMO, isn't that good.

I heard the other day, that they may not be "giving" out these cakes anymore. A friend called Ships Services to tell that them 2 of her friends would be celebrating their birthdays while they all were on the Noordam Trans Atlantic and asked that a cake be delivered to birthday gals at their dining table on the night of the birthdays (both same day). She was told that they no longer give a whole cake, but a piece of cake to each birthday celebrant.

Sounds like another cost cutting tool.

A few times I've ordered a special cake either for an anniversary or birthday for friends we were travelling with, but I always had to pay for these.

I celebrated a birthday while on a cruise with Holland America last December. I tried to keep it quiet, although a few tablemates knew. I ordered a dessert after dinner, only to notice that the waiter came over with a cake for me with a candle on it. He cut it in slices to be shared by tablemates, then he and a few other waiters sang Happy Birthday to me in their naive Indonesian language. What a pleasant treat and surprise. I was very grateful.

They get your date of birth right off your passport, so they know you are celebrating a birthday when you appear in the dining room that night.

They give you a small cake (basically a size for one or a couple) and the waiters will all sing for you ... both in English and in their native tongue.

It's kind of nice.

I think you could also make arrangements for something more elaborate ... like a full-size birthday cake, balloons, etc., but those will be at extra cost.

Blue skies ...

Thank you all for your replies. I was hoping for a back rub or Pinnacle dinner. I am just kidding. If they give me anything that is fine,if not that is fine to. I will just go to the casino and take some of thier money.
