Default Formal nights on Alaska cruises

Are there formal nights even on a very casual Alaska cruise? I have enjoyed formal nights on other cruises but to me it is tough enough having to pack cooler weather clothes on an Alaska cruise without having to pack formal clothes too.

Thanks DD. Dang! Don't they realize it's ALASKA!!!!! I've been there twice and have yet to see even a business suit let alone formal wear. So how many tuxedos do you see on formal night?

We where on HAL for 14 Days last Aug/Sept and saw plenty of

tuxedos on the ship . Just not the officiers.

I would recommend anytime dining on HAL or any cruiseline in Alaska.

There was a mix on our Alaska cruise last year - tuxes, suits, jackets with dark trousers - it seems anything goes in Alaska - people don't dress as fancy as they do in the Caribbean.

If you don't want to wear a tux or suit on formal night, have dinner in the Lido. The Eurodam has the Canaletto (Italian and FREE) and I understand that some of the ships will eventually be getting this restaurant, which is part of the Lido dining in the evening, then you can go there.

What ship are you on?

We are looking forward to a VanGuard tour 14 days on Ryndam on
Sept. 9. My DH will be thrilled that he will again be able to take his tux. He does look good in it. I have never seen a man who didn't look very distinguished in one. Thanks for the info. Excuse me. I have to go lose some weight.

My DH and I went on an Alaska cruise last year and he got by with a dark suit jacket, dress pants, dress shirt and tie. The dark jacket he wore only on the two formal nights. The dress pants he wore on some of the smart casual nights too with just a nice shirt or sweater. On our cruise we only saw a handfull of tuxs. Most of the men had the same type outfit on as my DH.
