Anybody cruisemates out there who are considering chartering a fishing boat in Ketchikan and/or Sitka? The cruise excursions are pretty outrageous in price, we've researched a couple of other options. Most of the charters want a guarantee of 4 to reserve. Found a Sitka charter that isn't full yet, in case there are any of you who want to full yet - need 2 more fishermen to fill the spaces. If any of you have had any first-hand experience booking your own charters, I'd love to hear from you. Also, any information about getting off the ship quickly when we're in port and not going on an HAL organized excursion?
We cruised on the Westerdam this past week, and on three different occasions we got stuck waiting 10-15 minutes for the crew to raise/lower the gangway after the tide had changed. So, I would suggest planning to leave a little bit early to be on the safe side. (Once the gangway was open the line to leave moves very fast)
