Default MS Amsterdam Aug 8/09

Please advise if we can bring our own wine on board and what the corkage fee is.
We have two boys ages 8 & 10...do they require a jacket and tie for the formal dinners?
I am just getting started on my research - lots to learn!!!

No the boys do not require a jacket and tie for formal nights. A nice pair of pants/chinos, short or long sleeve shirt are fine. Maybe if they want to they could wear a tie, but it's not necessary........it'll only come off after dinner anyhow.

If you bring your own wine for consumption in your cabin, there is no corkage fee. The fee only applies if you take it to the dining room. I'm not sure of the fee - it was $15.00 per bottle, but they my have upped it. If you do take it to the dining room and don't finish the bottle, the wine steward will re-cork it, put your name on it and serve it the next night.

Have fun!

Default Boys Dress & Wine

Your young men will not have to have formal wear , just nice clothes. We were on the Amsterdam for 38 days and there were very few children on board. Those that were on board were nicely dressed. Bringing wine on board might or might not be a good ideal. For example if you are fond of a particualr low priced wine by the time you purchse the wine and pay the corkage fee in the dining room you will probally be close to the price of that same bottle in the dining room. If you have a moderate or expensive wine taste, then purchase the wine, take it on aboard and pay the corkage fee. Have a great cruise!

Holland America's website indicates that you can bring wine and champagne aboard and the corkage fee is $18; it doesn't indicate a limit to the number of bottles. We sail on 7/4 and plan to bring 5 bottles of wine with us.

My DH and I have been on 5 HAL cruises and there is no limit to the wine you bring onboard. We usually drink our wine in the cabin (don't forget to bring your own corckscrew!) We will buy a wine card and use it at a bar or at the dinner table. Works for us. Happy cruising!
