Hi everyone, trying to decide on what cruise and what time of the year to do it. my husband and i and our single daughter 30 something.. are thinking of doing the 17 day Mediterranean Explorer with the Noordam leaving from Civitavecchia and going to Barcelona, Cannes, Tunis, Trapani, down to the greek isles, istanbul, messina, which we are planning to disenbark. the cruise departs on 12 august. What do fellow cruise mates think of the weather at this time of the year? we are going to spend a couple of days in rome before embarking. your suggestions will be appreciated.
I am assuming that you are talking about August 2010. We were on theNoordam last September and did both the eastern and western Med. The weather was very nice so I think August will be also nice but probably a little warmer.

The med in August can be very hot and be aware in Europe you will find less airco.
Besides msot europeans are on vacation so it can also be rather crowded in populair places. September or june would be much better.
Noordam is a gorgeous ship. She is the fourth in the series of class of ships called Vista and HAL really got it right with Noordam.
I agree it can be very hot in Europe in August but we have been in Rome and Athens among other ports and had great time in August. If that is the month you are available for travel, go for it. If you can go in June, it will be cooler and perhaps less crowded but not necessarily.
Thank you sail7seas, it makes me feel better as we really wanted to do that cruise and see the places it goes to. our friends that are travelling with us were keen to still do it regardless weather, we come from Queensland Australia, so we are used to the heat. hopefully we will cope.
Just got off Ruby - did 12 night med tour and it was bloody hot!
Warning Civatavecchia is about 1hr from Rome - about E120 to transfer.
I was with my mum (67) & sister (we are in our 30's).
You will love those ports - but aim for early June or mid September.
Noordam is a great ship - sailed her in Alaska!!!
