A couple of years ago at the HAL blackjack tables the dealer stood on all 17’s, with a table minimum of $5. When they changed to dealer hits soft 17, they lowered the minimum to $3. For those who play the table minimum, the expected rate of loss remained about the same, as the two changes roughly offset each other.
They have now gone back to the $5 minimum. Therefore HAL blackjack is a less attractive form of entertainment than it once was. The house percentage is about 50% bigger with dealer hitting soft 17, compared to standing on all 17’s.
