Default HAL Today, What's Different?

We haven't sailed with HAL since 2001, on our honeymoon, and we are booked with them again in May 2010 (Noordam).
Just wondering what, if anything has changed for the better or worse on board HAL? Service? Food? Entertainment? Amenities?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
donna

Cool

They now have "Anytime Dining". We found it is very good.

I have done three with HAL One way back in 1993 on the now retired Rotterdam then again just three years ago on the Zaandam and a year ago on the Statendam. Yes there are some minor changes (like the no trays in the lido that was mentioned) but that is unfortunately a sign of the times rather than HAL not keeping up its service. I found HAL on my last two cruises just as efficient, friendly, and wanting to do everything possible to make your time with them wonderful. You just can't beat the indonesian staff. I am going on another HAL cruise in 2011 and can't wait.

Thanks, all info was interesting. I know the service on our honeymoon cruise was exemplary - hope it's still as good!

Donna, congrats again on winning the big hockey game!! Hooray for Canada on that one!

We have cruised twice on long cruises with HAL in the last 5 years. Changes since 01:
  • All ships are either new or completely upgraded.
  • the service is still super good with Indonesian service and Filipino bar staff.
  • Like ALL cruise lines the food quality has declined a bit, but I understand it is coming back up.
  • The ships are all very elegant with all teak decks millions in art walk around promenades etc.
  • There is a lot less formality than there was in 2001.
  • The computer service is better and and the "excellence programs are very good.
  • The culinary arts centers will give you a chance to learn some new cooking techniques.
  • It's not Crystal, but it's very hard to beat for the money!!
BTW, we are sailing on the Eurodam, Ft. Lauderdale to Rome Saturday morning.

Bon Voyage to us both

We sailed Eurodam two cruises in February and really loved it. We sailed her two cruises last year as well.

We never expected to like her as much as we do b ut find her beautiful with great art, terrific textures and colors and updated decorating. The furnishings in the cabins are a new direction for HAL and we think they are very comfortable and attractive.

Eurodam consistently has the best Lido offerings of any ship/any cruise line we have been on and that is many cruises. The selection, qualilty, freshness and preparation are amazing. Look for 'Flavor of the World' every day at lunch to see what is offered. They had amazing paella one day, Italian another day, Latin style...... delicious.
