Default Inside cabin vs oceanview cabin on cruise with many at sea days

We are looking at the 42-nite cruise on HAL Volendam from Seattle to Sydney. There are quite a number of "at sea" days, with nothing to see out a window except ocean. On port days, disembark in early-mid morning, and then leave port late. Which is better?

On the Volendam, are there lots of decks with views, comfortable seating, etc, to while away the at sea days?

For a 42 night cruise, I'd pick an outside cabin. I also like looking out the window to see sunshine and what the seas and weather are like. I think I'd go bananas being in an inside room for 42 days.

We have only had an inside once and that was because we booked late. It was only a 7 day cruise and I didn't mind it, but DH said "never again". That was on the old Noordam and we had people on three sides - walls were very thin in those days.

Whatever you choose have a WONDERFUL time.

Holland America oceanview cabins are nice & spacious, so I would do that. You will want to use your cabin for something besides slepping and dressing on a 42-day cruise (watching TV & movies) so having a window with daylight will make it more "real" and not like an artificial environment.

For that length cruise, I'd certainly, at the least, get an outside.
Personally I'd even opt for a balcony.
Wish I could do a 42 dayer!!

Thank you, all.

All voted for ourside cabin with window.

This cruise has 18 "at sea" days, and 23 "port" days.

An alternative is to join the cruise at Auckland, NZ, with 6 "at sea" days, and 10 "post" days.

Thank again for your input.

Congrats at having such a long leisurely cruise to look forward too. I bet not too long into the 42, you aill appreciate the fact you chose the ocean view.

Trip, with her book & tea!
