Henry - here are some of the comments my friend made about the Lanai cabin.
It was just SO-SO
Wouldn't do it for more than 7 DAYS
If you have mobility problems, like my friend does, it was convenient to just walk out onto the lower prom deck - they were on the Veendam I believe.
There are 2 deck chairs reserved for you right outside your cabin
Cabin is smaller - they have taken away the drawers from the vanity.
You have to have 2 entry cards – one for the front door and one for the sliding door out to the deck. You always had to make sure you had both with you.
Heavy sliding doors - nearly got her fingers caught once.
During the day, the one way glass works well for people to not be able to see into your cabin. At night, when you put on lights, you have to be very careful to keep curtains closed as people can see into your cabin.
Really the answer is not to be undressed .I booked a Lanai for my next cruise.
Yup, just wear the same clothes the entire cruise, or only change in the dark
The simple answer, as suggested, is remember to leave the curtains drawn when in your cabin in the evening.
I toured these cabins when I sailed the Veendam last year. They seem smaller than the regular outside cabins because of the configuration needed to add the door. But otherwise looked OK.
Honestly not sure how much you'll use that door, or the two teak chairs sitting on the promenade reserved for you.
My better half may use the outside chair ,I do not think I will .My thinking is that if we want to open the curtain early in the morning we can wear our bathrobes . Supposedly the cabin is 197 square feet. The CM couple we are cruising with chose an inside cabin ,supposedly the largest cabin on the ship among inside ,outside or lanai .However ,my wife and I tend to be a bit claustrophobic and we took advantage of a "sale" on Lanai cabins .
If its not to our liking we will not book one in the future.
