Default Shore excursions: toilet on the bus?

Hi,

We're going to do a panama canal cruise on the Westerdam next year. We saw that the shore excursion on the pacific side usually have about 90 minutes of bus travel before you get to your first destination.
As my wife has a sensitive blatter we were wondering whether or not the busses have a toilet on board that can handle #1. Or do we need to ask/force the bus driver to stop whenever my wife needs to go?

Thanks

Boudewijn

While I have heard these bus's do exist, I have yet to see any. As far as asking the driver to stop, I would sincerely doubt that would happen, sorry.

Mmmm, well, if my wife needs to go, she'll go, in the middle of the bus if need be, so that wouldn't be pretty.

Thanks for the answer anyway.

Btw, we have been in a lot of these bus's in the Caribbean and in Europe, so it should be possible.

When I toured the Med last year, Ii too was hoping for this type of bus, but it was not to be. In the Caribbean, for me, a no go as well. Take the appropriate precautions for your wife, and if an emergency, hopefully the driver will have compassion, and take a stop....I bet others will take this opportunity as well.

I have never been on a bus with a bathroom . I too have urinary problems and try not to drink much before boarding a bus .

Exclamation Depends

Well, frankly, that is what Depends are made for, isn't it?

The bus normally has regular scheduled stops which include toilet facilities. As for a stop in between, there is first of all the problem of timing. Usually the guide has a very strict time schedule. A special stop would throw the entire tour off timing. Secondly there is the question of finding a suitable facility. Again in planning the tour this is thought of. But enroute in many countries, trying to find another decent bathroom can be seriously difficult.

Honestly, if your wife can't make it and doesn't use Depends, you may have to pass on some tours. Sorry.

Perhaps your DW may want to consider private tours vs going with the group on the bus. I don't think language such as 'force the driver' is a wonderful approach or 'go in the middle of the bus' as you suggest.

You may wish to hire your own car and driver and you can stop whenever you wish without worrying about a group of roughly 40 other persons on the tour.

Can you imagine if all forty would decide when and where each needed to 'go' and would 'force' the bus to stop at their demand!? Chaos......

Sail, I agree with you, that private tours are really the only way to go to avoid any embarrassment to his wife, and the outrage of the other passengers, if she chose to do what was mentioned.

Having the ability to make her comfortable on these tours, is what's important.
