taking wine onboard

I know that HAL allows passengers to carry wine, water and soda onboard and have been very liberal with the amounts. Has this changed at all? I am aware that most cruise lines forbid you to carry wine on even for consumption in your own cabin. Thanks in advance.

That's one good thing about HAL is that they are relatively liberal about their policy compared to some other cruise lines.

Here's their official policy on the matter and you'll note there is nothing stated about quantity;

Except for wine and champagne, guests cannot bring hard alcohol on board for private consumption. Hard alcohol purchased on board in the duty free shops or in port will be collected, stored for safekeeping and delivered to your stateroom on the last day of the voyage.


Guests can bring wine and/or champagne on board at embarkation or purchased in port. A corkage fee of US$18.00 applies to wine and champagne brought to the shipboard restaurants or bars for consumption. Wine and/or champagne brought on board cannot be consumed in any public venue. If a guest is drinking a beverage carried on board and in a public venue they will be asked to return it to their stateroom.

It would be nice if all the major cruiselines had this policy...I think as long as passengers abide by the rules, it all works out.

Except for the luxury lines that include complimentary alcohol as a part of the cruise (such as the Paul Gauguin), the best policy is Disney - you can bring whatever you want as much as you want.

I brought a 12-pack of beer and a bottle of tequila. But it was funny watching people pulling their small suitcases onboard with a case of beer strapped on it!

Therein, as they say, lies the rub.
You are expecting all passengers to abide by the rules.
If you had ever worked on a mass market ship, you would know that is impossible.

Even with the rules in place, we still see a growing number of passengers who leave all their clothes at home so they can fill their suitcases with beer and tequila. Then they have wild parties in their cabins, trash the cabins, disturb all their neighbors, start a fight, break a few bones, and then sue the cruise line for getting them drunk.

It is the behaviour of this growing demographic that forced us to put these alcohol rules in place. With the ridiculously low cruise fares we are continue to offer, the number of this type of passenger continues to increase.

Just got off Zaandam 11/17.. No problem at all with wine coming on board. They're supposed to take what you buy in port when you return to the ship (and give it back to you the night before the cruise ends) ,,,but they didn't see mine, and I carried my almond
tequila right to my cabin!

HAL is better in providing facilities. Not even for take wine or water on board. But few other are also like Separate couple dance, candle light dinner etc.

What if you go to one of the bars on board and you purchase a cocktail or a glass of wine and then you want to have dinner in one of the dining venues. Can you carry that glass of wine to your table? Thanks.

I am sure it happens but on the ships I have sailed on I have never seen what you have described. In fact, I never seen a anyone act out of line. What cruise line did you work on...I wish to avoid what you described.
