My favourite hotel in Ft. Lauderdale is the Marriott Marina. Not necessarily because it's got the nicest rooms, or grounds, or the best restaurants close by.
But I really love the outdoor patio bar out back. It feels so comfortable sitting back there next to the yachts. And this was the site of the first ever Creamscicle Bash!
It also has a wonderful view of the pier to wake up to. Just be sure to request a pier side room.
Anyone else have a favourite hotel that I may not have tried yet?
The too too trendy Delano Hotel in South Beach! It was so over=priced and pretentious for such lousy service it made me want to jump on a ship as soon as possible. Read our review here..
Paul,
could you tell which hotel in South Beach you stayed prior to Delano???? We are currently booked at the Surfcomber and have no "first hand knowledge" of this place. Thanks Kathy
One of the best deals around seems to be the new Hampton Court believe it or not. It is only a few doors away from the Delano, and about 1/3 the cost. Another time we stayed down by the far South end - where all the night clubs are, but the music outside our window went on until 2:00 AM. If you stay down there look to Washington Avenue instead of Ocean Boulevard for a hotel. I'm not sure where the Surfcomber is... do you have a picture, I will probably recognize it.
they have their own web site with a picture www.surfcomber.com - i understand it is in the heart of south beach - good or bad?????????? We are 6 families (w/teens) staying there pre-cruise in April.
Kathy
I tried going to the website but it wouldn't connect. What street is it on?

At 17th St. and Collins Avenue I don't think it is in the noisiest area of the Beach, you'll probably get a good night's sleep. It looks like a nice place - how much is it?

Yes, we paid $360 a night at the Delano! what a rip-off that was :-)
I hope you got to read the review. The Hampton Court is only about $120. We stayed at another place right on the beach (where the music was) for about $90 a night, but it was pretty run down.
I too like Marriot Marina, but Embassy Suites is a pretty close second. Just down the street a bit. Embassy Suites has shuttle service from the airport and complimentary breakfast included in the price so not a bad deal. But the Patio Bar makes Marriot my first choice also.

We are a family group of 28 (all ages ). We are booked at the surfcomber in Dec. for our cruise on the Voyager. If you would like, I can e-mail you details after we return. It does look and sound great !
