We are going on a cruise to Alaska (first time there) in May on the Volendam. Am looking for a hotel in Vancouver and thinking of staying at the Granville Island Hotel or the Pacific Palasides in Downtown. If you've stayed there or know someone that has, would appreciate any info on either one. Also if you know of a mod priced hotel in the area that's 3* would appreciate knowing about it too. Thanks in advance! Joan
Try and log onto www.hoteldiscounts.com. For my Ft. Lauderdale departure, they are quoting the very same manager's special rate which is the lowest for March. You may want to be careful of the location in Vancouver as it is such a large city; 2,000,000 inhabitants. We stayed at the Hyatt and I believe it was about $149 including breakfast. The Canadian dollar is valued much lower than US, so you should be able to get a good price. Also, once you have narrowed your choice, do call the hotel directly and ask for their lowest price for your dates including any "manager's special".
They are both nice hotels. I live in the city and know people who have stayed at each one. Palisades might be better in terms of location as it is downtown and within walking distance of shops and restaurants etc.Granville Island Hotel is in a very picturesque location on the water, near the Granville Island Market (don't miss it) but you can't just walk out the door and be in the heart of the city. It's a short cab ride to downtown.
You might consider the Hotel Georgia, a recently renovated old hotel in great location across from the Art Gallery and near shops etc.Am not sure of rates.
