We have booked a night at the Old El San Juan Hotel (pre-cruise) which is right on the pier, according to what I read. We are sailing on the Ocean Princess 2/25/01. How close are we to where the ship docks? Also, we will be arriving via a "red eye" on Saturday and will not have a lot of time to shop. Are any shops open on Sundays? Fairly safe to walk around at night? Any restauraunts or sights we should not miss? One final question-how soon on Sunday will be able to board the ship? Norm, if you are out there, I KNOW you have the answer to several of these questions...!
Re: Old El San Juan Hotel-how close to Princess Pi
Sounds as though you're booked at the Wyndam Old San Juan, as opposed to the El San Juan.
There is a pier very nearby to the Wyndam, but if the Ocean is docking at the same pier it did last spring when we sailed her, she'll be docked across the bay. It's a short cab ride away.
The Wyndam is located very close to Old San Juan, which is fun to just walk around. Lots of little bars, cafes and shops to browse.
Boarding process should start by 12:30 PM on Sunday. When we've cruised out of San Juan on ships docked at the downtown pier, we've boarded, then left to go strolling or shopping. This is a bit more difficult from the other pier, as there's nothing in that area, so a cab ride is necessary to get anywhere.
