Default Help with PreCruise Hotel - Ft. Lauderdale

All,

I've seen the Ft. Lauderdale "strip" mentioned in some of the posts..
Where is the "strip"....the street???
Is it Las Olas Blvd???

The reason why I ask....
I need to book a "pre-cruise" in Ft. Lauderdale. My wife and I will be arriving late, (around 7ish) so we really won't be able to enjoy a pool. However, we would like to be able to walk around, do a little shopping, and have a nice dinner on the beach, all within walking distance, or at least close proximity to THE hotel.
Would the Lago Mar be a good choice for this??
If not, can you recommend a good hotel in the $120 - $150 per night range???

Appreciate any help,
SteveM.

If you would like something on the beach the Lago Mar is a beautiful resort. It is on the beach but not near shopping or the strip. The strip is the stretch of beach and hotels along A1A which parallels the beach. It is very busy with people walking, biking and roller blading. You may find that to be great especially if you like to people watch. The down side is that it has a lot of T-shirt shops and bars and there is also a lot of traffic which can make it seem honky tonk. It has improved since the city has tried to bring in nicer restaurants and hotels recently. If you don't want to stay right on the strip but you want to be able to walk to it, the Sheraton Yankee Clipper is right before where the strip starts and it's right on the beach. Also you could try the Bahia Mar hotel which is directly across the street. It has a large marina. Both hotels are nice and reasonably priced with restaurants in them.

Kendra,

Thanks very much for the info....

Can you tell me anything about Las Olas Blvd?? Is that a little more "upscale" in terms of shops, etc. then the "strip"?? Can you walk around, shop, etc???

Thanks,
SteveM

Yes, Las Olas is extremely upscale. It has a lot of beautiful and expensive boutiques. It also has some wonderful outdoor cafes. It is a great area for walking around during the day. I think the shops are closed at night but the restaurants are all open late. You could easily take a taxi there from the beach area. It is only a couple of miles . There is also a water taxi . I can't think of any hotel in this area though.

The Riverside Hotel is located on Las Olas Blvd. Haven't stayed there, but understand that it is very nice. $130.00 per night range (fall/winter rate) It is right in the middle of all the shops / cafes etc, and has a water taxi stop very near.

Hi, We always stay at the Marriott Marina. It is "literally" across the street
from Port Everglades. The view of the ships from the hotel is great!
