We are looking for a hotel in London with a location convenient to the sights. Price range -- $200 - $250 or less -is that possible in London?? Someone recommended that Mayflower. Anyone have experience with that hotel?
You might find a good hotel in central London for the price you're looking for, especially now that war is on the horizon and prices are dropping to lure tourists. When we went to London in October 2002, it wasn't easy to find cheaper lodgings in central London with some comforts to go along with it.
We spent 5 nights at a B&B in a privately-owned, very quiet Knightsbridge townhouse (1 block from Harrod's and the Tube). Cost about $600US (total for 5 nights) for the entire 4th floor (bedroom, sitting room, full-size bathroom with tub/shower). Our room included a TV, DVD, mini bar with free sodas, bottled water and wine, hair dryer, ironing board and iron, and breakfast... all the comforts of home with a friendly host to give us touring tips. The host even allowed us "check in" at 7:30 a.m. (we took the overnight flight). We felt very safe, no worries about break-ins. We used Uptown Reservations (www.uptownres.co.uk). Hope you have a wonderful trip!
Mindy, last Sept. I stayed at the Meridien Waldorf hotel on Aldwych. It was in a wonderful location. Beautiful old world hotel with modern admenities. It was right in the heart of the theater district and on two blocks from the river Thames. Unfortunetely I don't know what we paid per night, it was part of a tour package.
