Default ft lauderdale hotels - embassy suites is full!

I've read through enough posts on the topic of ft lauderdale hotels to know that embassy suites is the #1 recommendation of most folks. However, it is nearly full to capacity for the date I want. I can't use my hilton honors points and don't think it will show up on priceline. What's the next best thing? Anyone have input on a Hampton Inn Ft. Lauderdale Airport location? (I can stay there free with my honors points, although I have to use a lot of them...)
Also: for priceline enthusiasts, my cruise is in March, do hotels put rooms on priceline this far out or must I bid closer to trip?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,

My husband and I are sailing on the Island Princess, March 25/04. We just booked our hotel through Priceline and got The Marriott Marina Fort Lauderdale for March 24th.

I just got it for $59.00 but I'am traveling in December so I don't know it will still be available. I prefer the Embassy Suites also, but I've heard that this is a nice hotel as well.

Personally think the Marriott Marina is a much nicer hotel than the Embassy Suites!! Ask for a room with a view of the pier and you'll think you're sleeping next to the ships.

If you can get Marriott Marina for $59, you got a steal.

Also.. if using Priceline, and bidding Ft Laud downtown, 3 star... those two are the only choices, so you really cant lose.

Christine,
I got the Marriott Marina for $68. I placed my bid on Sept. 5th and was successful on the second time. The only two you would get on a 3* is either Marriott or Embassy Suites. Good luck.

I got the Embassy Suites on 17th for $172 during Spring Break. I have to disagree with Kuki. I prefer it to the Marina Mariott. ES also gives comp shuttle to/from airport and pier, and a nice breakfast. The view of the ships from the Marriott *is* a great perk, though.

Embassy Suites no longer give complimentary shuttle to the pier unless you book the cruise special rate with them. otherwise they charge you.

Embassy Suites was my hotel of choice because of the perks it offers and its proximity to the port. However, when I called there in November, they said they were nearly full and would only offer me a price of somewhere around $180 per night (even with Hilton Honors and AAA discounts). I tried to use my Hilton Honors points to stay for free but was told that I couldn't use my honors points for the night I needed (3/7/04). I couldn't get it on priceline even with bids up to $80. Today I called Hilton Honors and they let me book it using my honors points! I got the hotel I wanted and for "free."

Hilton Honors told me the hotel offers free shuttle to airport and port. I'll call directly to inquire after reading the post above. Anyone stay there recently with input? Also, which rooms are the best to request in advance (for port viewing that is). Lastly, we were assigned a King suite - does this have two beds or just one? If just one, is there a sofa in the room (we're bringing kids - one already has a crib on request).

Thanks in advance! Counting the hours to my cruise......

When we stayed there about 3 years ago, there was a sofa in the living room that made into a bed so you shouldn't have any problems. Have read some recent reviews that it needs to be refurbished, but for one night I wouldn't be concerned. You have a free made to order breakfast and about a 2 hour free cocktail time in the evening. We ate dinner there and it was very good. Hope that this information is still correct.
