Fort Lauderdale hotels, Priceline and a holiday weekend

We will be in Fort Lauderdale pre-cruise on the Friday of Martin Luther King weekend next January. What do you suppose our chances are of getting something good on Priceline for that weekend? I have tentatively booked two rooms at the Embassy Suites but of course they are very pricey and would love to do better than that.

Do you think it is way too early to even try bidding yet? (And I know all about biddingfortravel.com and betterbidding.com - I use Priceline all the time!)

Otherwise, if there are any recommendations for nice, beach or close to beach hotels there for that one night, I'd appreciate your input. Thanks.

We spent pre and post cruise late Jan and early February. Spent a night a each. Marriott Marina is almost walking distance to pier but offers a shuttle service to and from. Sheraton Four points is beachfront, no shuttles. Both show as 3 stars in Priceline, which is accurate. Clean and unpretentious and decent value @ $80 a night.
You would bid 3 stars in FLL downtown and Beach area. Kuki in a previous post spoke of bidding on the resort in the $100 range which gets you Marriott Harbour Beach Resort

Too early to start bidding, do you think?

Perhaps a little. I booked in late November. I would presume that the prices are moderated by the fear, or lack thereof, of having empty rooms. There would appear to be precious little to be gained by accepting a low bid now for 10 months hence. The best approach is to decide what you feel is the best price and periodically test the waters. You would have 72 hours to wait between each decline.
P.S. the 2nd night was the Doubletree not Four Points. My error.
